Consortium Partners Visited ORDA SPIR DFSA Project Achievements

(25 September 2018 ORDA -Lalibela)

Consortium Partners from Care Ethiopia, World Vision and ORDA visited the grand SPIR DFSA project achievements in Lasta, Gazgibla & Gazo areas on 24 September 2018. Teams organized from each consortium headed to Gazgibla & visited wonderful accomplishments of CLH work in Miyo Hadi & Debre Woila Watersheds. A variety of crops such as barley & wheat and legumes (chick pea) are being produced in clustered approach after a tedious earthen work of bench terraces on the highly degraded tough rugged mountain that ranges from 2600-3100m asl. It is noted that a total of 52 ha of cultivable land (28 ha and 24 ha of land) is formed from Miyo Hadi & Debre Woila Watersheds respectively.

Hence, degraded lands rehabilitated, soil fertility improved, erosion hazard and land degradation reduced, forage production increased & enhanced, temporary job opportunity created for youths through accessing cultivable land and CLH knowledge increased & scaled up to other 20 kebeles in a woreda.

In the same token, visitors appreciated improved school infrastructure works and ODF declared areas of Degosach & witnessed strong community structure for its sustainability. Engagement of women on poultry production & they started feeding egg primarily for children to alleviate stunting is to be considered as wonderful. Household water harvesting & backyard vegetable farming and CLH are the major achievements of ORDA-DFSA of Lasta.

Moreover, Gazo project triumphs, such as supplying improved potato seed for beneficiaries/producers, engaging beneficiaries on shoat value chain, constructing artificial Dam to supply water for livestock & VESAs are to mention a few of project successes.
