ORDA’s Livelihood for Resilience Activity project has conducted a consultative workshop with various concerned stakeholders on December 23, 2018 in Dessie , Amhara, Ethiopia.

The Livelihood for Resilience Activity project has been intervening in seven woredas of the Amhara region, namely: Meket, Kobo, Gubalafto, Habru, Menz Gera, Menz Mama & Wadla woredas. It has allocated $ 7.9 Million (over 200 million birr) to improve livelihood of 36 thousand households whose life is under sever poverty. The fund secured from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under Feed the Future Ethiopia, through care Ethiopia.

Since its launching time (December 2016), the project has assisted 25,981 households (Male: 17,934; Female: 8,047) and beneficiaries saved 3.8 million birr by organizing them in village saving & loan groups. In addition, for the past two years, beneficiaries of the project have been engaged in various value chain activities (wheat, lentil, onion & potato production, poultry, sheep & goat (shoat) & oxen fattening, off farm & wage employment.) The project has now started improving their livelihoods in many ways.

Duplication of beneficiary kebeles in both Livelihoods for Resilience Activity Project and PSNP4 Livelihood Implementation & Coordination Unit (LICU) has been resolved on the workshop held in June 2018. After beneficiaries are fully handed over to PSNP4 LICU, ORDA’s Livelihood for Resilience Activity Project still requires addressing 8,469 poor households.

Eventually, the workshop has arrived at a consensus to fill in poor households in Gubalafto, Mersa, Kobo, Menz Gera & Menz Mama woredas.

Authorities and experts from Bureau of Agriculture, Office of Disaster prevention & Food security, Zonal & Woreda offices, Care Ethiopia & ORDA participated in the workshop.
