Inclusive Food and Nutrition Security Project Launching Workshop held (ORDA-CBM –BMZ) Feb 27/2018, Bahir Dar, Ethiopia


The project is targeted to benefit over 9 thousand households with a total budget of 90 Million Birr to be implemented in three woredas, namely, East Belessa, West Belessa and Ebinat in Amhara Region.

During the opening remark, head of Bureau of Finance & Economic Cooperation, Dr. Tilahun Mehari claimed ORDA is a distinct developmental partner of the people of the region and the government. ORDA benefited over half a million people to secure food & nutrition gaps in the region, he said.

Dr. Tilahun ensured that the government is committed to carryout developmental activities with ORDA and CBM-BMZ to improve the society’s livelihood through collaborations.

Mr.Marco Andolfi, head of Public Donors Unit CBM Germany, on his part asserted that BMZ has been financing Ethiopian Developmental Activities to alleviate poverty.


Mr. Markus Bock, 2nd Secretary, Development Affaires and Humanitarian aid, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Ethiopia stated that ORDA- IFNS project had magnificent impacts on the livelihood of the community.

Executive Director of ORDA, Dr. Amlaku Asres exclaimed that ORDA planted nearly 670 million seedlings & covered over 117 thousand hectares of land which contributed 4.2 % to the Region’s plantation, constructed about 4, 970 water schemes making access for over 2.3 million people & 244 SIS which can potentially irrigate over 22, 600 ha of land, and over 660 thousand households secured their food and nutrition gaps.

The work shop is targeted to officially launch the actual Commencement of the New IFNS Project. It also provided opportunities to clarify the purpose and activities of the Multi-Year Plan, to enable Stakeholders to know each other and to create a bond as regional team and Strengthen Complimentary efforts to contest food and nutrition insecurity of the Region.

Ato Getu Hailu, Manager, Bussines Development and Action Research Program of ORDA presented the detailed five years plan of the project and a thorough discussion was made among respective stakeholders to make the project fruitful.

Heads and officers from different government institutions such as from ANRS Bureau of Finance & Economic Cooperation, Agriculture, Livestock Promotion, Water Resource, Women & Children, Zonal & Woreda Administrative bodies, ORDA, Donors from BMZ participated in the workshop.
